Rep. Yekeh Kolubah sitting

On Tuesday, July 21, 2020 a verbal clash ensued between Monstarrado County’s district #10 Representative, Yekeh Kolubah, and Deputy Police Director for Operation, Melvin Sackor, a few yards from the GT Bank in Sinkor.

According to information, a vehicle belonging to Representative Yekeh Kolubah was “recklessly driving” on the third and opposite lane, but was stopped by the police. The Deputy Police Director for Operation, who was on the scene, ordered that the vehicle be driven to the police headquarters and be impounded until further order. But when Representative Kolubah arrived on the scene, he refused for the vehicle to be driven away and insisted that the police release his driver and the vehicle immediately.

Representative Kolubah reminded Deputy IG Sackor that he is a lawmaker and an honorable man who is immune from arrest while on his way to or from duty.

However, Deputy Director Sackor explained that the driver of the vehicle was driving recklessly, using the opposite lane. He said Representative Koluah was not even in the car, and that was why he ordered his boys to pull the car over. “I told them that this man is very reckless, and so they should take the car to Central. When Representative Kolubah arrived on the scene, instead of him asking me what’s going on he started insulting me and the President,” the Deputy Police IG said.

A verbal clash ensued between the two public officials, thus prompting Deputy Director Sackor to order the arrest Representative Kolubah. The incident led to the obstruction of traffic and free movement on Capitol Hill. Calm was later restored following the intervention of some members of the House of Representatives.    Montserrado County’s district #8 Representative, Acarious Moses Gray, told the Hot Pepper that the situation was resolved after the intervention of House Speaker Bhofal Chambers, but Representative Kolubah has opted to write a communication to parliament to summon the Deputy Police Boss over an allegation of assault on a lawmaker.
