As Students Continue To Decry Lack Of Buses, Chairs: SUP Warns UL Administration

The Student Unification Party (SUP) of the University of Liberia (UL) has called on the government, through the UL administration, to immediately provide buses for students at Fendell, as well as provide maximum chairs on all UL campuses.

SUP observed that the University of Liberia (UL) is the macrocosm of the larger society, and the consistent and deliberate neglect by the government is unacceptable, noting that students do not need to protest before their concerns are resolved.

According to the vanguard student group, the absence of chairs as well as buses has created unpleasant and embarrassing situations for students. “The lack of available buses for students at the Fendell campus is an on-going issue that has significantly disrupted the daily routines of students and affected their punctuality for classes as well as students dropping out of school. Based on the economic hardship in the country, students are unable to afford regular transportation from Redlight to Fendell, which has created unnecessary stress and inconvenience, especially for students who rely on UL buses to minimize transportation costs,” SUP stated in a press release.

According to the release, in as much as the vanguard Student Unification Party (SUP) has not forgotten the need to renovate the University of Liberia (UL), buses and chairs should be available in the intervening period.

“The state-run university remains in ruins and neglected up to now. There’s no sign of renovation. Students are still learning in a place where they would sit in filthy rooms that are only good for pigs, with limited and nasty bathrooms that give them bacteria, insect-infested chairs, and nasty buildings that continue to traumatize the students,” the release observed.

In a related development, SUP is calling on the UL administration to quickly address the challenges facing the online registration platform that has been malfunctioning and extend the “Add and Drop” immediately. SUP disclosed that students have been finding it difficult to get access to the platform due to its slow pace and inconsistency.

“There is still confusion in the arrangement of sections consistent with the classrooms. Most students are yet to enroll because of limited sections and huge numbers of students. These conditions are creating confusion among students and teachers, and must be addressed now,” SUP added.

Meanwhile, SUP has warned that it will not hesitate to mobilize the students and institute unspecified revolutionary actions if the question of chairs, portal and buses are not addressed as soon as possible.
