The Borough Sanitation Company (BSC) was over the weekend launched in the Burough of New Kru Town, Bushrod Island.

Speaking at the launching ceremony at the New Kru Town Hall, Montserrado County’s district #16 Representative Dixon W. Seboe acknowledged that solid waste management is a major challenge in Liberia.

Representative Seboe underscored that establishing a waste management company in the Borough to collect waste from the various communities of New Kru Town should be embraced by all community dwellers, in keeping the need to keep the community clean and healthy.

He disclosed that over the years money has been provided through his office to community leaderships to ensure the drainages in the varied communities are clean to prevent flooding during the rainy season.

He noted that, with the establishment of a sanitation company in the Borough, residents of the Borough can be assured that the intervention will go a long in ensuring that communities in the district are clean all the times.

Representative Seboe maintained that community dwellers should cooperate with BSC by paying a little fee to collect their dirt and dispose of them properly, rather than dumping dirt at street corners and in drainages in the community.

According to him, it is disappointing that more community dwellers, including several individuals who were invited to launch the BSC, refused to honor the invitation.

He asserted that their refusal to honor the BSC invitation is due to their lack of support for development in the district—their refusal to make a little financial contribution toward the company as permanent citizens in the district.

Representative Seboe pledged the amount of one thousand United States dollars as an initial contribution to  BSC to keep  the Borough clean and healthy.

Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer of the Borough Sanitation Company, A. Goodridge Nyanforh, said the company intends to employ 200 workers to ensure that dirt in the various communities are collected on time.

Nyanforh stated that the Borough of New Kru Town was established for a small population, but the population increased over the years and the disposal of solid waste has been a serious challenge which need to be addressed.

He emphasized that if the company is to succeed in keeping the communities of New Kru Town clean and healthy, residents have major role to play through the little fee charged to collect their dirt.

He asserted that BSC is a history-making process to establish the first sanitation company in the Borough, and all who embrace the ceremony of its launch history will be remembered by them.

Nyanforh pointed out that BSC will need the support of all community dwellers  to  ensure that the company become the best sanitation company in Liberia.

For his part, the Chair of all Chairs in district #16 in Montserrado County, Philip-Boye Merchant, said the people of the district will support the work of the company through mutual cooperation.

Merchant stated that sanitation should be the concern to all residents in the district, noting that a clean environment produces healthy people.
