Montserrado County's Senatorial Aspirant, Chernor Jalloh

Residents of Montserrado County over the weekend gathered at the House of Many Mansions Church, opposite the Inter-Ministerial Complex, Congo Town, to officially petition their senatorial aspirant, Chernor Jalloh, to contest the senatorial seat of the county come October 10, 2023 general and presidential elections.

Jalloh was petitioned to contest the October polls as an independent candidate, with the mandate to advocate and provide oversight for the people of the county to receive basic social services, which past and current senators of the county have failed to do.

Responding to the hundreds of petitioners, Jalloh expressed humility for the confidence reposed in him to contest the up-coming senatorial election in Montserrado County, noting that he wholeheartedly accepted their petition and nothing will distract him from the race. “I will not let you down,” he told his petitioners. He said his only contender in the race is incumbent Senator Saah H. Joseph of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), and vowed to defeat him during the October polls.

Aspirant Jalloh expressed dismay in many members of the 54th National Legislature, whom he accused of using their duty-free privileges to import illegal substances and materials into the country.

He alleged that many lawmakers are consumers of illegal substances, recommending a drug test for all lawmakers.

Senatorial Aspirant Jalloh disclosed that in the coming days he will mobilize approximately 2,000 persons to storm the Capitol Hill in demand that legislators undergo a drug test. “We will force them to do their drug test. Lawmakers are drug dealers; they are spoiling our children,” Jalloh alleged.

He also accused President George M. Weah and his cabinet ministers of being involved with drugs, threatening that the CDC headquarters and Jamaica Resort will be the next places for the protest.

According to him, until Liberia is cleared of drugs the youths will always be influenced by these “so-called” leaders and used to instill fear in peaceful residents and create instability.

The petition ceremony was graced by hundreds of sympathizers, well-wishers, disenchanted members of the CDC and PLP, as well as members of the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) who believe in the leadership ability of aspirant Jalloh.

Jalloh is the former Youth Chairman of the Liberty Party (LP). He fell off with the party hierarchy after the death of Cllr. Charles Walker Brumskine and was allegedly jailed by Senator Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence ahead of the late Brumskine’s funeral. A few years later, he joined the People’s Liberation Party (PLP) of Dr. Daniel E. Cassell, where he served as National Vice Chairman for Auxiliaries. However, the death of Dr. Cassell brought the party into leadership crisis, and Jalloh decided to distance himself from the two sides.

He is a graduate of the AME Zion University and a supporter of Alexander B. Cummings’ presidency.
