The National Chairman of the Community Watch Forum of Liberia (CWF), I. Nyenati Caffey, has disclosed that more than 2,600 persons have been trained under the organization’s community safety and empowerment program across Grand Bassa and Lofa counties.

In an interview over the weekend, Chairman Caffey explained that the initiative aims to strengthen community security and promote citizens’ participation in crime prevention.

“Our intent for this country is for communities to take ownership of their own security,” Chairman Caffey said. “We want to empower our people with knowledge and skills through which they can prevent crime and report them promptly.”

He emphasized that the Community Watch Forum’s activities complement the efforts of the Liberia National Police (LNP), particularly in areas where police presence remains limited.

“We realize that the police’s presence in other counties is very low, so we are doing our part to support their work and help enforce the rule of law,” he noted.

Caffey revealed that 925 persons were trained and certified in Grand Bassa County on October 31, 2025, while 1,690 persons completed similar training in Lofa County. The training, conducted over a period of three to eight months, focused on community vigilance, collaboration with local authorities, and nonviolent approaches to maintaining peace.

He further disclosed that the CWF has expanded its training programs to 14 of Liberia’s 15 counties, with plans underway to reach the remaining one.

“As we speak, I have mandated the training commander to proceed to Grand Cape Mount County, where the five administrative districts will be assessed, and those eligible will benefit from the training,” he stated.

Chairman Caffey called on the Liberia National Police (LNP) to strengthen collaboration with the Forum in maintaining safety and community order.

“We called on the Liberia National Police (LNP) to make it their priority by supporting us,” he urged.

He also highlighted the broader vision behind the CWF’s efforts, noting the organization’s commitment to creating an environment conducive for national growth and investment.

“We want to provide a safe atmosphere for people to come and invest in Liberia,” Caffey added.

Chairman Caffey reaffirmed the CWF’s dedication to promoting safety, community ownership, and partnership with the police in maintaining law and order throughout the country.
