Contempt Charge Dropped!

The Supreme Court of Liberia has purged the Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Samuel Tweah, of its contempt charge after he appeared at the Temple of Justice to answer to why the court should not hold him for such a charge.

At about 12:55 p.m. on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, Minister Tweah made his way to the Supreme Court, accompanied by the solicitor general of Liberia, for a contempt deriving from a summon he previously refused to honor.

The court had issued a writ of arrest on Minister Tweah, and so he was probably arrested by the Ministry of Justice and delivered to the Supreme Court.

The minister informed the court that as of Monday, November 7, 2022, allotments have been made and checks deposited in the accounts of the Judiciary for the months of September and October 2022. He further stated that the month of September is already being paid out while October will be paid by the end of this week.

As it relates to the financial autonomy act, he said he will henceforth respect and adhere to the act.

The Chief Justice, Her Honor Sie-A-Nyene Yuoh, has therefore purged the contempt charge on Minister Tweah and warned him that the repetition of the act will warrant a stiff penalty.
