The Managing Editor of The Liberian Investigator, Lennart Dodoo, has strongly rejected a claim made by an online platform, Dtv Liberia, which alleged that he was assaulted and had his gadgets seized by the former Mayor of Monrovia, Jefferson Koijee.
The online platform posted on December 11, 2025, titled, “Here Are Few of the Tragic Events That Occurred During the George Weah Regime from 2018—2023”, listed several incidents involving prominent public figures, including the allegation against Journalist Dodoo.
The claim was placed under the headline, “Jefferson T. Koijee seized the gadgets of FrontPage Africa editor Lennart Dodoo, March 6, 2021.”
The former FrontPage Africa News Desk Chief Editor, Dodoo, took to social media to set the record straight, expressing his disappointment and vehemently rejecting the claim, describing it as false.
In a Facebook post, he wrote, “I read with astonishment a Facebook post by Dtv Liberia alleging that I, Lennart Dodoo, was assaulted and had my gadgets seized by the then Mayor of Monrovia, Jefferson Koijee, on March 6, 2021, while I served as News Desk Chief and Editor at FrontPage Africa. This claim is entirely false.”
The Liberian journalist emphasized the importance of accuracy in journalism, underscoring that as a media professional he not only has a responsibility to defend press freedom but also a duty to uphold truth and factual communication.
Dodoo stated, “As a media professional, I have a duty to defend press freedom. But I have an even greater responsibility to uphold accuracy and truth in public communication. Publishing unverified information not only misleads the public; it undermines the very principles we, as journalists and media institutions, are obligated to protect.”
He further emphasized the gravity of misinformation in the media. “Publishing unverified information can cause unnecessary harm and distrust, and it is critical that we maintain integrity in the profession. I call on Dtv Liberia to immediately remove my name from that publication and issue a clear erratum correcting the misinformation,” he added.
In his comment, Dodoo also called for accountability from Dtv Liberia, urging the platform to correct its mistake by issuing a public erratum. He underscored that public figures and media professionals must work collaboratively to ensure that the public is properly informed and that journalistic standards are upheld. “I hope Dtv Liberia takes this matter seriously and ensures that its reporting is as factual as possible moving forward,” Dodoo concluded.
As of now, Dtv Liberia has not issued any statement regarding the claims or Dodoo’s request for a retraction. It remains to be seen how the platform will respond to the journalist’s call for correction.
It can be recalled that on December 8, 2023, the U.S. Department of the Treasury Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC) designated Jefferson Koijee (Koijee), then mayor of Monrovia, for the Global Magnitsky sanctions, with the belief that Koijee has a reputation for stoking violence and controls paramilitary-style organizations associated with the CDC, which allegedly recruited former combatants and recently released prisoners.
Some of the allegations against Koijee was that he was involved with the death of Charloe Musu, daughter of former Chief Justice Gloria Musu Scott, hindering corruption investigations, disrupting peaceful protests against the CDC government and threatening media practitioners.
However, several of the allegations, if not all, were not, and are yet to be, proved against the former Mayor, with no semblance of government making effort to prosecute him for the alleged crimes.
It has been two years since his designation and his removal from office, and the Boakai administration’s blind-eye to initiate prosecution is gradually becoming a confirmation that the allegations against the Mayor were only made up by certain individuals who may have some personal issues with him or saw him as a threat to their sinister agenda.
Koijee has since made himself available for prosecution, and ceaselessly appealed to the government to have his day in court, but to no avail.
Observers are saying that Dodoo’s clarification that the allegation against the mayor is false may be the first of a long list of rebuttals of allegations against Koijee. They said even though Koijee was a powerful figure during the Weah administration all the allegations levied against him are yet to be proved, even though he is harshly undergoing sanction restrictions.
They said it is now time for all Koijee’s accusers to either come forward with proofs to prosecute him or offer apologies to the young, aspiring politician, noting that it is becoming a political culture for people to tarnish the hard-earned reputations of others only for political warfare, without the least cognizance that the world is watching and taking the statements seriously.
