–Extols Pres. Boakai’s Leadership Quality

As Liberians are gearing towards celebrating the nation’s 177th independence anniversary slated for Friday, July 26, 2024, a Liberian diplomat with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Chief Dr. William Deiyan Towah Sr, has called on Liberians from all walks of life to embrace peace, unity and being focused on the national development of the country. He also extolled the leadership quality of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai since his ascendency to the presidency early this year.

Speaking to a cross-section of the Liberian media over the weekend in Monrovia, Chief Dr. Towah used the occasion to extend his congratulations on the ensuing historic milestone of the nation’s Independence to President Boakai, Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung, the government and people of Liberia as well as saluting the sense of purpose of the forefathers of Liberia for the level of patriotism and commitment exhibited in opting for independence, which made the country the first independent nation in Africa.

“Let me remind us that our dear country, Liberia, which means ‘land of the free’, was the first nation on the African continent to gain its independence on July 26, 1847, from the United States of America, which is why Liberian Independence Day is celebrated on July 26. This Africa’s first and oldest modern republic began in the early 19th century as a project of the American Colonization Society (ACS), which believed black people would face better chances for freedom and prosperity in Africa than in the United States.

“Life without liberty is like a body without spirit. I therefore pay tribute to our founding fathers who fought earnestly to guarantee the liberty we enjoy today, and congratulate His Excellency the President of our dear country, the government and good people of Liberia, the Liberian community in the Diaspora, the ambassadors and all other distinguished personalities who have maintained the good image and reputation of our dear country,” Chief Dr. Towah historicized.

Speaking further, the ECOWAS diplomat, who is the Director of Administration and Finance at the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice, conveyed words of felicitation from His Royal Highness Igwe Dr. Emmanuel Ugwu and the entire traditional Kingdom of Ibagwa Nike, Nigeria, the community from which Dr. Towah holds a powerful chieftaincy title of UGUMBA 1, which means “Pride of the People” and his entire family, including his wife Ruth Towah and the children.

He asserted that he will continue to support every worthy cause to keep the image of the nation at the peak of regional and global diplomacy, adding that the fraternal relationship between Liberia and other countries in the subregion remains paramount.

“I cannot end my short engagement with you members of the fourth estate without praising the level of democratic transition this country has witnessed over the years from the state of being regarded as a failed state after 14 years of brutal civil war. Our elections are now reference points for genuine enthronement of multiparty democracy in Africa especially at the time when we are witnessing the upsurge of military coups and other undemocratic tendencies that continue to frustrate the voices of the people being respected through the ballot box,” Dr. Towah stated.

“I urge all Liberians, including the political class and other stakeholders to continue consolidating on the gains made and ensure that we remain united and committed to the common cause of the state and its people,” Chief Dr. Towah maintained.
