PRESIDENT JOSEPH NYUMA Boakai on Monday, January 26, 2026 faces the situation of achievement and distraction when he addresses the National Legislature on the State-of-the-Nation, giving his annual report on his administration’s achievements and challenges during the year under review. 2025, the year under review, was characterized by such outstanding achievements as Liberia’s non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council, but also low distractions as the Foya Presidential Palace.
THE PRESIDENT IS expected to make mention of the significant milestone in taking the budget to US$1.2 billion, marking a notable expansion in fiscal resources and prioritizing investments in agriculture, roads, rule of law, education, sanitation, and tourism, aligning with the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development.
THE UNITY PARTY (UP) Torchbearer will no doubt highlight Liberia’s bid and success for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the 2026—2027 term, highlighting the country’s commitment to global peace, security, and governance—a move that underscores Liberia’s dedication to multilateralism and its desire for a stronger voice on the international stage.
PRESIDENT BOAKAI MAY also announce the United States of America’s plan to extend visa durations for nonimmigrants, potentially up to 3 years, aiming to facilitate easier travel and investment in Liberia, as well as improvement in transportation infrastructure, particularly the Monrovia Transit Authority, as part of efforts to enhance connectivity and mobility within the country. This achievement may not be discussed without highlighting the progress in road network development, a crucial aspect of Liberia’s infrastructure agenda.
IT IS HIGHLY expected that President Boakai will address on-going efforts to combat corruption, highlighting successes and outlining strategies to strengthen accountability and transparency in governance. If he uses the workings of the Asset Recovery Taskforce as reference, some officials and activities of the Weah administration may be negatively impacted.
