LIBERIA, SAYS PRESIDENT Joseph Boakai, has always been guided by the ideals of the United Nations—peace, security, and human rights—and remains an active participant in global cooperation efforts. “Together, we will keep working toward a future of prosperity, stability, and sustainable development for everyone,” he said. “Long live the United Nations, long live our common pledge to global peace and security.”

PRESIDENT JOSEPH NYUMA Boakai, Sr. was on Friday, October 24, 2024, speaking at the 80th anniversary celebration (1945—2025) of the United Nations (UN). He had joined Liberians and representatives of the international community in celebrating the commemorative event, which was celebrated under the global theme, “Better Together: 80 Years and More for Peace, Development, and Human Rights”. Liberia joined other UN member states to mark the milestone, reflecting on eight decades of international cooperation and the nation’s enduring contribution to peace and development.

“AS WE CELEBRATE under the theme, ‘Better Together: 80 Years and More for Peace, Development, and Human Rights’, we are reminded of the importance of equality, justice, and solidarity,” President Boakai noted. “The United Nations continues to stand as a beacon of hope and cooperation for all peoples and nations.”

AT THE HISTORIC event, held in Margibi County, President Boakai reflected on Liberia’s historic decision in 1945 to become one of the founding members of the United Nations, noting that the choice was made out of “a deep sense of duty to humanity and to our common world”.

“AS A FOUNDING member of this truly global organization, Liberia celebrates with joy the UN’s accomplishments as we reflect on our own proud history as part of this respected body,” he said.

THE CEREMONY BROUGHT together members of the Cabinet, United Nations family, heads of international organizations, representatives of the diplomatic corps, local officials, traditional leaders, and student groups.
