–Pres. Boakai Inaugurates Resumption On 80th Birthday

Ethiopian Airlines, one of the leading airlines in African aviation, on Saturday, November 30, 2024 resumed passenger flights to Monrovia.

Authorities of the airline observed that they are committed to expanding their network across the continent and beyond, with new routes to Dhaka, Bangladesh, and Port Sudan, Sudan, and now the significant reintroduction of Monrovia to the global network.

They described the resumption of flights to Monrovia as the beginning of a new chapter in connectivity within Africa and beyond.

Meanwhile, on his 80th birthday anniversary celebration, President Joseph N. Boakai inaugurated the resumption service of the Ethiopian Airlines that aborted service since 1984, noting that the return of the Ethiopian Airlines services in Liberia will provide adequate job facilities for the Liberian people, and strengthen the ties between Liberia and Ethiopia.

President Boakai stated that the resumption of services to Monrovia also brings significant benefits, as it not only expands travel options for passengers but also plays a vital role in promoting economic integration between Ethiopia and Liberia. This new route aims to facilitate trade, tourism, and cultural exchange, ultimately contributing to the socio-economic development of both nations.

Ethiopian Airlines Group’s Chief Executive Officer, Mesfin Tasew, stated, “We are pleased to resume our flights to Monrovia, reinforcing our dedication to connecting Africa and promoting intra-African trade. In line with our vision of providing the best travel experience, we believe that our presence in Liberia will enhance opportunities for business and tourism, thus driving mutual growth. This resumption of services represents the strengthening of ties and the bridging of cultures between our two great nations.”

CEO Tasew disclosed that flights to Monrovia will operate three times a week, providing seamless access to Liberia’s rich cultural and natural attractions. “Monrovia, known for its vibrant culture, rich history, and natural beauty, is now more accessible to visitors from around the world through the hub in Addis Ababa.

Travelers can explore Liberia’s stunning beaches, lush jungles, and historical sites, benefiting from the restored air connection that supports the region’s economic development. Ethiopian Airlines invites travelers to experience the convenience and comfort of its flights, continuing to serve as a stimulus for development and unity within Africa,” he stated.

“Flight ET933 is scheduled to depart from Addis Ababa every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:30 a.m., arriving in Monrovia at 01:50 p.m.. Conversely, flight ET932 will leave Monrovia every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday at 10:20 a.m., with an arrival time in Addis Ababa at 08:40 p.m.,” he added.

According to CEO Tasew, the schedule is designed to accommodate both business and leisure travelers, ensuring a smooth connection to the airline’s extensive global network. Ethiopian will deploy its ultra-modern aircraft on the route.

Earlier, Transport Minister Sirleaf Tyler lauded the Ethiopian Airlines’ flight resumption as a means of economic benefits and strengthening bilateral relationship between the two nations. The airlines first trip to Liberia on November 30, 2024 brought two hundred plus passengers to Liberia.
