The First Presbyterian Church of Liberia has celebrated its 192nd anniversary with the induction of its pastor, Rev. Cornelia Greene Wesley, on Sunday in Monrovia.

The 192nd anniversary, which was held under the theme, “Behold how Good and how Pleasant it is when Brethren dwell Together in Unity”, brought together friends and relatives of Pastor Wesley, including the Former President of Liberia, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.

Speaking as the guest preacher of the occasion was the Rev. Dr. Samuel Reeves, Pastor of the Providence Baptist Church. Dr. Reeves urged Liberians to foster unity in the church and the nation, rather than division.

Dr. Reeves stated that working in unity among the people will strengthen the growth and development of the church and the people.

According to him, in the house of God there should be no discrimination and separation among the people, but working with the Spirit of God to strengthen the mission of the church on earth.

He pointed out that when people are united in the house of God the blessings of God fall upon them like dews, which shower the flowers in the morning. “So are the people who are united for God’ s work,” Dr. Reeves asserted.

The Baptist prelate and President of the Liberia Baptist Missionary and Educational Convention (LBM&EC) emphasized that the pastoral leadership of the First Presbyterian Church of Pastor Wesley should leave the church better than they met it after their stewardship.

Meanwhile, the Pastor of the First Presbyterian, Rev. Cornelia Greene Wesley, said the church will support missionary work across the country to win more souls for God.

Rev. Wesley stated that Presbyterians will continue to build on the foundation of their forefathers and modernize some of the activities of the church to encourage the younger generation in the things of God.
She said it is critical that they revisit the values of the family system in Liberia in training the young people in the dignity of labor and respect for family values.

She emphasized that the church will continue to work with the government but will speak against ills in the country.
