Former Deputy Speaker Barchue Dead

The death of former Deputy Speaker of the National Legislature, Hans Barchue, has been confirmed by family sources. According to family members, Barchue died early Tuesday morning following a protracted illness.

   Barchue served as Representative of Grand Bassa County’s district #1 from 2011 to 2023, and as Deputy Speaker from 2012 to 2018. He shortly served as Speaker in 2016 when then Speaker Alex Tyler resigned from the position.

   He was recently named on the campaign team of the Unity Party (UP) Standard Bearer, Ambassador Joseph N. Boakai, for the pending 2023 general and presidential elections.

   Meanwhile, Ambassador Boakai, expressing his regret at Barchue’s passing, said, “It is with profound sorrow that I have received word of the death of Representative Hans Barchue of district #1, Grand Bassa County, a member of our National Campaign Team.

   “Representative Barchue undoubtedly served his people and country with solid commitment, diligence and humility.”

   Ambassador Boakai added, “Due to his expressed passion to see the best for his people, county and country, I recently named him on the National Campaign.

   “I extend deepest condolences to his family, the people of district# 1, Grand Bassa County, the Legislature of which he once served as Deputy Speaker, the Liberty Party, the Rescue Mission Campaign Team and all Liberians for this irreparable loss. May the soul of Hans and all faithful departed rest in perfect peace.”

   Also, the Vice Standard Bearer of the Collaborating Political Parties, Cllr. Charlyne Brumskine, also wrote on her Facebook page, “We mourn today. The Chairman of the Legislative Caucus of Grand Bassa County and a friend to my father, Honorable Hans Barchue, has passed on. We, however, celebrate his life and contributions to Grand Bassa and the Liberian legislature. May his soul rest in peace.”
