One of President George Manneh Weah’s biggest critics and opposition member, Henry Pedro Costa, has described the President of the Republic as mature and magnanimous by going beyond political difference and reaching out to him in a friendly conversation.

In a late Facebook podcast yesterday, Costa disclosed that President Weah has guaranteed his return to Liberia as a free man, but with a request to the President that the government, through the Ministry of Justice, issues a statement toward that effect.

He described the conversation between him and the President as a privilege and a good one, and thanked him for being tolerant, mature and magnanimous.

According to Costa, President Weah did not seem disturbed about the criticism he carries out against him, noting that the President told him that he was used to criticism, reminding him that he was once a footballer who underwent huge criticism. He said though the President told him and others to continue with their criticism all they want, he warned that his family: wife and children, should be spared.

The President’s call to Costa comes at a time when the political commentator’s “naked photos” are being spread like wildfire on social media platforms, with observers opinionating that it could be the President’s way of expressing solidarity with Costa.

Costa explained that he did not record the conversation with President Weah, but received an approval to tell the public about their discussion.

He used the occasion to remind the President that his equipment seized during the shutting down of his radio station are still with the government, and appealed to the Ministry of Justice to release them to him, as they are worth thousands of United States dollars and belong to him and his partners.
