The leadership of the House of Representatives is expected to convene a meeting on Monday, February 9, 2026 at 12:00 noon with aggrieved citizens of district #8, particularly residents of Saye Town, and residents claiming ownership of land along the 72nd Barracks, popularly known as Camp Ramrod, in order to ascertain the facts and gather firsthand accounts regarding the demolition exercise in those parts of the country. The Minister of Public Works, Roland Giddings, has been invited to form part of the meeting.

On Thursday, February 5, 2026, Montserrado County’s district #8 Representative, Prince Q. Toles, formally requested the appearance of the Minister of Public Works before the Legislature to provide clarity on on-going property markings, citations, and alleged over-demolition activities in Saye Town and surrounding communities.

In an official communication submitted to the House plenary, Representative Toles expressed growing concern over reports from residents of district #8 regarding the marking of homes and properties, which citizens fear may lead to unjust demolitions.

The lawmaker underscored the need for transparency, due process, and clear communication from the Ministry of Public Works to prevent unnecessary hardship for law-abiding residents.

According to Representative Toles, constituents have raised serious questions about the criteria being used for property markings and whether affected homeowners were adequately informed or engaged prior to these actions.

Following deliberations on the floor, the leadership of the House of Representatives took seizure of the matter, and committed to convening a meeting on Monday with aggrieved citizens of district #8, particularly residents of Saye Town, as part of efforts to probe the situation.

In a related development, the leadership of the House of Representatives will on Monday at mid-day meet with citizens and residents claiming ownership of land along the 72nd Barracks, popularly known as Camp Ramrod. The meeting will be held in the First Floor Conference Room of the House of Representatives.

The decision follows a communication from Montserrado County’s electoral district #5 Representative, Priscillia A. Cooper, who brought to the official attention of plenary concerns affecting her constituents regarding land occupancy issues allegedly outside Camp Ramrod. In her communication, Representative Cooper requested that plenary invite the Ministry of National Defense to provide clarity on the matter.

On Thursday, during the 8th Day Sitting of the 3rd Session of the 55th Legislature, the Speaker, Representative Richard Nagbe Koon, announced that the leadership of the House will hold the meeting to engage directly with the affected citizens and residents claiming ownership of the land.

Speaker Koon underscored that the House of Representatives is concerned about the welfare and well-being of every Liberian citizen, and remains committed to ensuring that citizens’ grievances are addressed through peaceful dialogue and institutional engagement.

For her part, Representative Priscillia A. Cooper expressed appreciation to the Speaker and the leadership of the House for their timely intervention, noting that it is important to listen to the plight of her constituents and provide them an opportunity to be heard.

The House leadership assured that the engagement will help guide further actions, including engagement with relevant government institutions, in the interest of fairness, transparency, national security, and community stability.
