Japanese Delegation Pays Courtesy Call on Information Minister Rennie

A high-level delegation from the People Republic of Japan Wednesday, July 19, 2023 paid a courtesy call on Information Minister, Ledgerhood Julius Rennie, as part of their visit to Liberia as guests of the Crusaders for Peace, headed by Culture Ambassador Juli Endee.

   The Japanese Delegation acquainted Minister Rennie of Japan’s plan to use part of Marshall City, lower Margibi County, if granted by the Liberian government, to build a “Japan Village” for fishery and agri-based products, using state-of-the-art Japanese technology.

   Accompanied by Japanese Ambassador to Liberia, the President of the Japanese Association of African Economy and Development (AFRECO), Tetsuro Yano, said they have held initial discussions with Liberia’s  Ambassador to Japan, H.E. Blamo Nelson, on their intentions to assist Liberia improve and advance its fishery industry through the construction of a “Japan Village” in Marshall.

   He expressed delight in coming to Liberia to be a part of the Golden Image Awards ceremony organized by the Crusaders for Peace along with the Ministry of Information Culture Affairs and Tourism.

   Other members of the Japanese delegation include Ambassador Hisanobu Mochizuki and Executive Advisor Satoshi Ariyama of Yachoyo Engineering.

   Welcoming the delegation to the Ministry of Information and Liberia, Minister Rennie lauded the Japanese visitors for accepting to come to Liberia and be a part of the annual Golden Image Awards ceremony and their intention to build a Japan Village at Marshall for fishery and agri-business purposes.

   “We are glad to have you in Liberia, and thank you for having such a wonderful plan for Liberia. I am sure when all of the appropriate stakeholders are adequately engaged, such an investment would be endorsed by the government,” Minister Rennie remarked. He assured the Japanese of receiving the warm Liberia hospitality during the visit to the country.

   This opportunity has come at the time Liberia is celebrating its 176th Independence anniversary while preparing to hold general and presidential elections in October this year.

   Liberia and Japan have had long-standing diplomatic relations since 1962, with both countries keen to continuing this cordial and friendly relations.
