The renovation of the Joint Chambers of the House of Representatives and Senate of the National Legislature has been set by the Chinese government.

According to the Senate Pro-tempore, Nyonblee Karnga Lawrence, the renovation of the Joint Chambers has been approved by Chairman Zhoa Leji of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC), China’s Legislative body.

The Pro-tempore made the disclosure Thursday at the Capitol Building when she met with legislative reporters to discuss issues of national concern.

She indicated that money placed in the national budget in 2025 for the renovation can therefore be directed to other priorities of government.

She explained that a communication will be presented to the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs to work with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to work out further modalities for the renovation to kick-off as soon as possible.

Pro-tempore Lawrence explained that the government under President Joseph Nyumah Boakai is proceeding in the right direction to ensure that Liberia’s development drive moves forward.

She noted that reform at the Liberian Senate will go a long way to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the Senate’s oversight.

Pro-tempore Karngar-Lawrence stated that she believed that with proper coordination between the Executive and Legislature government will success with its development drive for the nation.

The joint Chambers of the Legislature got burnt nearly a year ago, when the House of Representatives staged an impasse at the Legislature to remove former Speaker, J. Fonati Kofta, from the speakership of the 55th Legislature.
