The Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Ambassador Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah, Sr., has extolled the Korean government for the humanitarian and development assistance it continues to render the government and people of Liberia since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Liberia and Korea about 60 years.

Foreign Minister Kemayah observed that the longstanding relations and cooperation between Liberia and Korea have been mutually fruitful and rewarding to the mutual benefit of the two governments and peoples.

According to a Foreign Ministry release, the Liberian Foreign Minister was speaking on Thursday, July 27, 2023 when the visiting high level Korean government delegation paid a courtesy call on him at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Foreign Minister urged the Korean government to establish a joint commission to continue its assistance to Liberia, especially in the areas of technology, agriculture and infrastructure as well as the energy sector.

Foreign Minister Kemayah also asked the Korean delegation to help provide scholarship opportunities to enhance the capacities of the Liberian youths, mainly in the areas of vocational and technical training.

For his part, H.E. Soosuk LIM, Deputy Minister for Public Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, who heads the delegation to Liberia, extended thanks and appreciation to the Foreign Minister and the government and people of Liberia for the warm reception accorded his delegation here, in Liberia.

The visiting Head of Delegation then assured the Liberian Foreign Minister of his government’s willingness to get involved with Liberia’s development drive at all times. He also hailed President George Manneh Weah and his government for Liberia’s willingness to support Korean bid for the World Expo 2030 in Busan, Korea.

He said his delegation was in the country to reassure Liberians of Korea’s unflinching and continued support to Liberia’s development initiatives and to convey a special message from Minster Kemayah to his Korean counterpart on all the requests made by Minister Kemayah.

While hailing the cordial and longstanding bilateral relations with Liberia, Soosuk LIM disclosed that Liberia was a great help to the people of Korea for the ascendency of Korea on the Non-Permanent seat of the United Nations Security Council.
