The Liberia Olympic youth teams have returned from Luanda, Angola, after participating in the 4th African Youth Games (AYG) from December 10–20, 2025, with two bronze medals in the Snatch and Jerk categories (weightlifting).
16-year-old Abraham Kallon represented the Liberian Weightlifting Federation and won the bronze medal in the 60kilos category in the Snatch and Jerk event.
Kallon lifted 40-60 kilos in his two rounds trial and won the hearts of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) President and officials due to his outstanding performance in his first international competition. He won two bronze medals in the Snatch and Jerk, respectively.
The Chef de Mission to Angola, Boie Corvah, has meanwhile expressed gratitude to all the athletes who proudly represented Liberia in the just-ended African Youth Games, and to the Government of Liberia (GOL), through the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MYS) for their support.
According to Corvah, Liberia has produced a new star in the weightlifting category, under the watchful eyes of coach Thomas Seeton, whom he said plays a major role in Kallon’s career. He noted that coach Thomas, who is a weightlifter himself, takes a lot of credit in the success of the athlete’s performance.
