A Liberian Entrepreneur, Francis A. Varney, has welcomed the decision taken by the United States government sanctioning out-going Liberian government officials. According to him, the sanctions will serve as a deterrence for those wanting public positions.

He made the statement during an exclusive interview with the Hot Pepper recently at his office in district #2, Monsterrado County. Varney noted that the US government’s actions will provide transparency at governmental level in the country.

In addition to his comment, Varney stated that from time in memorial Liberians have used government position for personal enrichment. He said this mindset of Liberian government officials must stop because it, in no way, helps to improve the Liberian society. According to him, the in-coming government officials will take note and govern themselves accordingly.

At the same time, the entrepreneur has challenged the in-coming government, headed by Ambassador Joseph N. Boakai, to pursue the sanctions from the US government by using the legal system of Liberia for prosecution of charges levied by the US government.

He is at the same time calling on Liberians at home and abroad to welcome the sanctions because, according to him, Liberians will be careful when it comes to the discharge of their official duties.

He observed that if the public sector is in check the private sector will follow suit.
