LIS Dep. Comm. Participates In African Border Security Week In S/Africa

The Deputy Commissioner General for Operations of the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS), Atty. A. Kundukai Jaleiba Sr., is currently participating in a two-day African Border Security Week meeting held in Cape Town, South Africa.

   The meeting started on May 6, 2025 and is expected to end today, May 7.

   The meeting brought together hundreds of participants from around the globe. LIS Deputy boss for operations, during the meeting, elaborated on enhancing Liberia’s border security in the context on challenges and opportunity.

   Speaking to the LIS Deputy Commissioner General for Operations, he noted that his presentation highlights the strategic role of border security, with details on Liberia’s current border security challenges, porous and inaccessible borders, lack of infrastructure and technology as well as different terrain and remote regions.

   According to him, technological advancement as opportunities will be discussed during the meeting. He said the Government of Liberia (GOL) is committed to digitalizing it services provided to the public. He stated that authorities of the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) are committed in buttressing the Government of Liberia (GOL) by putting Liberia borders in line with best practices. The current on-going meeting also discussed Liberia’s smart border: biometric verification, e-gate, drone, and Al-power surveillance.

   His presentation covered key capacity building and institutional reform, regional and international cooperation, community engagement and trust building, policy and governance innovation with case study in Liberia’s borders context, among others.
