The Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) has announced new measures aimed at strengthening accountability, transparency, and oversight in the processing of immigration-related services.

In a public statement, LIS outlined detailed requirements for the accreditation and recognition of all processing agents, agencies, and expeditors operating in the country. The new guidelines are designed to regulate the activities of individuals and institutions that assist in immigration procedures, while also ensuring public trust and adherence to legal standards.

According to the LIS, any business, company or concession seeking accreditation as a processing agency must now provide an official letter of appointment from the contracting entity addressed to the Commissioner-General of LIS; a valid business registration certificate issued by the Liberia Business Registry; a valid tax clearance certificate issued by the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA); a comprehensive business profile, including office address, email, telephone contacts, and names of key officers; an evidence of professional references and prior experience in immigration services; and a signed compliance undertaking pledging adherence to LIS rules and regulations.

Also, individuals seeking recognition as immigration processing agents or expeditors must submit a completed LIS agent application form; a valid national ID card, passport, or driver’s license; proof of residence (such as a lease agreement, utility bill, or attestation); a recent police clearance certificate confirming no criminal record; and two passport-size photographs for identification.

According to LIS, accreditation certificates will be issued to approved agencies, while identification badges will be provided to individual agents and expeditors. The accreditation will be valid for one year and subject to annual renewal.

The LIS emphasized that all accredited entities will remain under review and may face suspension or revocation in cases of non-compliance or misconduct.

It further encouraged interested applicants to contact its Press and Public Affairs Section or visit the official website at www.lis.gov.lr for additional information.
