To tackle huge invalid votes reported recently, the Youth League of the Liberia’s People Democratic Party (LPDP) has launched a door-to-door civic and voter’s education exercise in Montserrado County’s electoral district #16.
The LPDP is one of the three primary constituent parties within the Coalition, which has been headed by President George Weah since 2017.
During the October 10, 2023 presidential and legislative elections, over 2,000 invalid votes were reported as incumbent Representative Dixon Wlawlee Seboe of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change was re-elected for his second Constitutional term.
However, to ensure that citizens, especially the electorate believed to have contributed to the many invalid votes as reported are educated on the voting process, the LPDP Youth League, led by its Chairperson, Robbin George, officially launched the civic and voter’s education process in district #16.
Making remarks at the occasion Wednesday, November 1, 2023, George emphasized that the activities of the group, though it is a segment of the CDC, are to educate the electorate, including all citizens, irrespective of their political affiliation.
“We want to ensure that the more than 800,000 votes that we [the CDC] obtained during the first round of the election are doubled in the second round of the presidential election, slated for November 14 this year,” he said.
According to the LDPD Youth League arrowhead, all partisans of the ruling CDC remain very committed, uncompromised, forceful and determined to properly and conveniently execute this objective before the run-off election.
George said he believes that the civic and voter’s education exercise conducted by the National Elections Commission (NEC) prior to the holding of the October 10 polls did not properly reach many of the ordinary citizens and, as such, many of them voted the way they understood the process.
But he indicated that, this time, all hands are on deck and the party’s youth league is fully up to the task of fighting and defeating this nightmare by transforming those invalid votes to valid votes. He expressed optimism that those citizens will cast their ballot for President Weah.
At the same time, Robbin George said the incumbent leader deserves an additional six years of the Liberian presidency through the majority vote of citizens across the country.
He named the construction of many community and major roads connecting several places, the payment of WASSCE fees for 12th grade students, the effectiveness of the tuition-free policy at the University of Liberia and all public colleges across the country, the construction of housing units for citizens in the low-income bracket, infrastructure development and respect for the rule of law as a few of hundreds of reasons for President George Weah’s re-election.
Meanwhile, the Youth Chair of the LPDP urged all CDCians in the Borough of Krutown/district #16 to not be complacent as a result of the huge number of votes obtained by the Liberian leader in the first round.
He said he wants all members of the CDC to be more robust in their door-to-door engagement and peacefully convince others about the significance and impact of the President’s re-election.
George also called on all residents of the Borough of Krutown to cooperate with the exercise and maintain the country’s peace before, during and after the run-off election, adding that election comes and goes but Liberia remains.
