Mama Jama Ultimate Sports Youth Basketball Program, in collaboration with Great Ball Players USA, is hosting its 2022 children vacation day camp and basketball program in three communities: New Kru Town, Logan Town and New Georgia Estate.
This year’s program is aimed at catering to children between seven and thirteen years, with the objective of providing recreational activities for them while they are on their annual school vacation. The program envisions keeping the children off the streets during the vacation period.
Speaking to the Hot Pepper recently, Jonathan Harvey disclosed that the program is in two phases. He said the first phase is a two-week basic basketball fundamental skill training and a two-week basketball tournament. According to him, the program is fully sponsored by Great Ball Players USA.
Great Ball Players USA is an organization of former Liberian basketballers in the USA, with a mission to build and rehabilitate community basketball courts in the suburbs of Monrovia and its environs.
The group endeavors to ensure all youths, regardless of where they live, origin or background, have access to competitive basketball and recreation activities, while Mama Jama Ultimate Sports is an organization with the sole objective of developing basketballers in various communities.
According to Harvey, the program started on Monday, August 15, 2022 and is expected to come to an end on September 15, 2022.
He said the day camp officially closed on Friday, August 26, 2022, and the tournament kicked off the next day, Saturday, August 27. “Due to the early opening of this year’s school, all tournament games will be played over the weekends,” Harvey disclosed.
