An economics instructor of the William V.S. Tubman High School has described the President of the Monrovia Consolidated School System Teachers Association (MCSSTA) as an individual who lacks vision and moral rectitude.

Johnny D. Hopkins alleged that the Teachers Association’s President, Augustine Nyumor, openly and clearly admitted during the recent graduation ceremony of the Tubman High School to the fact that he is corrupt when he stated that he lives on donations from the Finance Minister.

According to Hopkins, the MCSSTA president only focuses on his personal gain and has completely forgotten about the objectives of the teachers association, which primarily seeks to promote and protect the welfare of the employees of MCSS.

Hopkins further observed that the MCSSTA president has blatantly refused to speak on the illegitimate and illegal cut of the employees’ salaries at the end of every month by the Government of Liberia (GOL) in the name of “rate dropped”.

Hopkins, who is the Chairman of the Economics Department of the William V.S Tubman High School, intimated that it was regrettable that the MCSS Teachers Association’s president has accepted a promise, which was never documented, to pay US$250 in place of the salary cut, which is yet to come.

Hopkins said after cutting the employees’ salaries for about four years, the “no-vision leader of the MCSSTA”, Augustine Nyumor, agreed in a meeting with the Finance Minister to give each employee of MCSS the amount of US$250 in place of the US$10,000-plus that have been cut for the last four years.

The senior economics instructor said all these directionless and shortcomings of Nyumor only show that he has nothing to offer in terms of making the TA viable, but rather big boast of office space that has no impact on the livelihood of the employees.

Hopkins said any such negotiation or bargaining with government should take into consideration the interest of the employees but rather it is very poor and shows the lack of vision of the leader.
