Deputy Minister for Fiscal Affairs at the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP), Anthony G. Myers, along with a delegation of senior Liberian fiscal management officials, has departed Liberia for Nigeria to participate in a high-level capacity-building program hosted by the University of Ibadan.

According to the invitation from the University, Deputy Minister Myers will serve as a facilitator during one of the program’s specialized sessions. Other members of the delegation include Comptroller and Accountant General Elwood T. Netty, the Superintendents of Nimba and Grand Bassa Counties, Dr. Romeo D. N. Gbartea (Director of Fiscal Decentralization at MFDP, as well as senior officials from the Public Procurement and Concessions Commission (PPCC) and the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA), among others.

This engagement, according to the ministry, underscores Liberia’s commitment to strengthening its fiscal infrastructure through regional collaboration and knowledge exchange.

In a statement, the MFDP commended the delegation for its proactive engagement, emphasizing that “this program represents a strategic step toward deepening institutional capacity in public financial management.”

The training will cover critical areas such as fiscal decentralization, financial management, revenue-sharing laws and regulations, and international best practices in public financial governance. Designed not only to enhance participants’ technical expertise, the program also aims to prepare them to serve as trainers within their respective institutions—promoting sustainable capacity development across the Liberian public sector.

Participants who demonstrate active engagement and successfully complete the program will be awarded certificates, symbolizing their readiness to cascade acquired knowledge across key government agencies in Liberia.

This collaboration is part of a broader trend in South-South cooperation, as African institutions increasingly lead initiatives to improve governance and strengthen public sector effectiveness across the continent.
