MOL To Conduct Job-Orientation Workshop For Recent Graduates
The Ministry of Labor says it will, this Thursday, begin the rollout of the job creation scheme for recent university and college graduates beginning with a 5-day orientation workshop for applicants at the Ministerial Complex in Monrovia.
According to a release, the Ministry of Labor is implementing this initiative through a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between the ministry and the Liberia Chamber of Commerce in June 2021.
The MOU aims at providing an initial 500 jobs to recent university and college graduates, and is in furtherance of the government’s “Pro-Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development (PAPD)”, espoused by President George Weah.
The release quotes Labor Minister Cllr. Charles H. Gibson as saying that, due to COVID-19’s health protocols, the work management and ethics orientation workshop will accommodate 50 of the successful applicants per day.
The first batch of 250 successful applicants will be trained from December 16—29, in the area of “behavioural ethics in the workplace”, and the training will be facilitated by eminent persons from the Liberia Chamber of Commerce.
According to the Labor Ministry, during the recruitment process, over 6,000 applications were received, of which 800 have been vetted. From that number, the release noted that the first batch of 300 have been shortlisted for job placement beginning January 2022.
The recruitment and vetting process was carried out with the assistance of the Association of Human Resource Professionals of Liberia, a key partner of the Ministry of Labor.
The ministry further disclosed that nearly 30 direct job placements were done during the vetting process to companies in need of urgent recruitment.
The Ministry of Labor has also revealed that it will early next year begin the solicitation of nearly 2,000 skilled workers, including carpenters, masons, plumbers, drivers, mechanics, electricians, among others, for job placement with various concessionaires operating in Grand Cape Mount, Nimba, Bong, Grand Bassa, Grand Kru and Sinoe countries.
Labor Minister, Cllr. Charles H. Gibson, and the President of the Liberia Chamber of Commerce, Cllr. Oswald Tweh, will jointly address the opening of the job orientation workshop on Thursday at the Labor Ministry.
