Nimba County’s electoral district #7 Representative-elect, Musa Hassan Bility, has defined his opposition role against the establishment of a war and economic crimes court in Liberia.
Speaking on Truth FM over the weekend in Paynesville, Representative-elect Bility stated that Liberia and its citizens are not yet ready for such a court in the country.
The business tycoon-turned politician also termed those calling for the establishment of the court as hypocrites, noting that when the appropriate time comes the citizens themselves will lead the way by calling on the international community to establish the WECC.
Bility berated those calling for the court to be established in Liberia for failing to make similar calls during the 12 years of the former President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf’s administration and the six years of out-going President George Manneh Weah.
“Ellen was here for 12 years. The Accra Peace Accord (CPA) called for this to happen, but they didn’t do it. George Weah was here for six years. So you see, I think there is a degree of hypocrisy. When they’re ready to talk about war crime court, we will talk about it, but my position on the war crime court business is final: I’m not in support of it. Liberians are not ready for it, and we need to focus on what we’re ready for,” he observed.
Bility noted that there is no sincerity in the call for the establishment of the court, saying that there is a sinister motive behind their move, which he considered unfair to others. “There is a degree of hypocrisy here,” he averred.
At the same time, Representative-elect Bility said he will be ready for the establishment of the war and economic crimes court in the country if the security of Liberians is guaranteed and the justice system is up to the task.
“Yes, if we are determined as a country about where we are going to start from, is it 1980 or 1990, which Liberian’s life is so important that we are going to prosecute people for, then we need to answer all of these questions,” he questioned.
The Nimba County electoral district #7 Representative-elect maintained that, if all of his doubts are clearly addressed by those concerned, including the tight justice system and security system in place, he is willing for the establishment of the court.
