The Musicians Union of Liberia (MULIB) has successfully concluded its first edition of “Say No To Illicit Drugs and Substance Abuse” Campaign in Kakata, Margibi County, with a grand musical festival held at the Nancy B. Doe Stadium.

The two-day initiative, which began on Thursday, November 20, 2025 with visits to ghettoes and illegal drug hideouts in Kakata and surrounding communities, culminated in a vibrant celebration that drew county officials, students, community residents, and some of Liberia’s top entertainers. Legendary musicians such as Takun J, Nasse Man, and Kpanto, alongside comedian Future Doe and several local artists from Kakata, graced the stage to lend their voices to the fight against drug abuse.

Representing the office of the County Superintendent, Administrative Assistant Lewis Kaine praised the campaign as a laudable initiative. He urged young people in Margibi to stay clear of illicit drugs, emphasizing that their future and the future of Liberia depend on their choices.

“You’re the future leaders of Margibi and Liberia at large. Illicit drugs will destroy your life or damage your future,” Kaine cautioned.

For his part, Abraham Swaray, President of the Musicians Union of Liberia, expressed gratitude to residents, students, and community members for their participation. He noted that the campaign was not only about musical performances but also about engaging young people—particularly students—who are vulnerable to peer pressure and drug use.

“This campaign is intended to prevent young people from getting involved with drugs and substance abuse. Our strategy will reduce the proliferation of drug users in Margibi County and Liberia at large,” Swaray observed.

Swaray revealed that the union is collaborating with Margibi County authorities, humanitarian groups, nonprofit organizations and the office of the Arts and Culture Ambassador, Kekura M. Kamara, to mobilize resources for disadvantaged youths.

According to him, a plan is underway to support rehabilitation centers across Liberia—to help young people reunite with their families and communities while contributing positively to society.

The Musicians Union of Liberia, established as the umbrella body for all musicians in the country, has the mandate to promote, protect, and organize musical activities nationwide. The “Say No To Illicit Drugs and Substance Abuse” campaign marks the first major initiative under the leadership of President Swaray and his team since their induction on July 18, 2025.
