The National Elections Commission (NEC) on Tuesday, July 13, 2022 certificated the senator-elect from the Lofa County by-election, Joseph Kpator Jallah, as the Senator of Lofa County.
The election, which was conducted on June 28, 2022, shows that the votes obtained by the candidate-elect were recorded on a 5-page carbon copy, known as the record of account.
The record of account was signed by party agents, shared with the parties, a copy of each posted on the walls for public viewing, and announced that Cllr. Jallah is the winner from the Lofa County by-election.
According to the NEC Chairperson, Davidetta Brown Lansana, Liberian law provides that any candidate or party who disagrees with the results may, within seven days after the commission announces the results, utilize the legal process, with the Supreme Court being the final arbiter.
She said, with the seven-day period for filing a complaint elapsed without any complaint filed, the commission certificates Cllr. Jallah as the Senator of Lofa County.
The NEC assured all Liberians that they will continue to uphold their Constitutional mandate to conduct free, fair, credible and transparent elections without fear or favor.
The NEC boss thanked the government for providing the funds to conduct the election, and to all political parties who participated in the just-ended election.
Making remarks, the senator-elect of the Lofa County by-election, Joseph Kpator Jallah, extended thanks to the NEC for conducting a free, fair and transparent election, but underscoring his disappointment over the attempted hacking of the NEC website, which he said is no way linked to the results counted at the magisterial office.
“I am disappointed that some of our desperate losers are comparing the results counted and tallied in Lofa County without any proof that the results in their possession are different from those from the commission,” said Cllr Jallah.
