NEC Postpones Boakai’s Certification
The National Elections Commission (NEC) has postponed the certification of the winner of the November 14, 2023 presidential run-off election, President-elect Joseph N. Boakai and Vice President-elect Jeremiah Koung, and is expected to work closely with the Unity Party (UP) to come up with a new date for the certification of the two leaders.
NEC’s decision was prompted by a reply from the Unity Party (UP) after they extended an invitation to the party regarding the certification program, scheduled for today, Friday, December 8, 2023 at the Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf Ministerial Complex in Congo Town.
In its reply, the UP officially informed the NEC that, due to the visit of the President-elect, Ambassador Joseph N. Boakai, to the United States of America, the issuance of certificate for the winner of the November 14, 2023 presidential election should be postponed until his return.
The party pledged to work with the NEC to schedule a new date for the issuance of the certificate for the President- and Vice President-elect.
President-elect, Ambassador Joseph Nyumah Boakai, and Vice President-elect, Jeremiah Kpan Koung, have both left the country for the United States of America and Ghana, respectively, on different functions. Boakai is expected to be away for two to three weeks.
Meanwhile, the National Elections Commission (NEC) will on today, Friday, December 8, 2023 certificate the winners of the October 10, 2023 legislative elections. the ceremony, which begins at 10:30 a.m., will be held at the Ministerial Complex, Congo Town.
