The National Elections Commission (NEC) has termed as false and misleading purported accounts, with links attached, indicating that the commission is presently recruiting staff for the conduct of the 2023 elections.

According to a NEC press release, one of the purported accounts wrote, “The National Elections Commission is recruiting ad hoc staffs for the coming general elections.” The commission said the statement is untrue, and that the account is self-styled, fake and inaccurate. It called on the general public to ignore the announcement.

Meanwhile, the commission is urging the public to continue following its official platforms for authentic news and information on election activities. “The NEC presently uses two outlets to publicize its activities: facebook.com/NEC Liberia and www.necliberia.org,” the release stated.

“Additionally, the NEC holds regular press conferences, sends out public service announcements (PSAs), press releases and other media relations, all designed to keep stakeholders, including international partners, abreast of the on-going activities of the electoral cycle,” the release added.

The commission warned against disinformation and misinformation which it said have the propensity of confusing the general public and undermining the integrity of the election process.
