NPP Founder Prefers James Biney For Chairman
As preparation gets underway for the national convention of the National Patriotic Party (NPP), there are indications that party Founder, Charles Taylor, would prefer Senator James Biney to continue his role as Chairman of the NPP.
The jailed former Standard Bearer of the NPP is said to believe that a die-hard stalwart like James Biney should play a key role in advancing the party to the next level.
Ex-President Taylor is reported to have made his opinion known in a telephone conversation recently with a close family member in Monrovia.
According to the report, the former President is quoted as saying that Biney is capable of bringing the party together to form a strong force in the political struggle that lies ahead and, therefore, wants senior stalwarts to join him.
Charles Taylor’s personal opinion is very likely to be embraced by grassroots partisans of NPP who have since endorsed James Biney’s ambition to contest the party’s Chairmanship in the pending national convention.
Recent survey conducted in the party showed that Biney, who is also Senator of Maryland County, enjoys the highest degree of support for the post, especially among the party’s main auxiliaries, including the women and the youth, as well as a cross section of the party’s executives.
A strong member of the party’s Women Wing, Konah Brown, said the NPP Women stand ready to support James Biney’s re-election in the pending convention, in appreciation of his role in promoting the interest of grassroots partisans of the party.
Brown claimed that the senator is the only member of the party’s hierarchy that is open to the partisans and ready to seek their interest since NPP entered into coalition with the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC).
She noted that a number of NPP executives are only interested in the party during national convention, for the sole purpose of seeking election, but turn their back on the people after the process.
A similar statement of support for the re-election of Senator James Biney to Chair the National Patriotic Party was also echoed by other stalwarts of the party and executive members, with the conviction that the incumbent will lead the party in the right direction.
