The Online Freelance Reporters Union of Liberia (OFAiRU) has honored the Director General of the Liberia Intellectual Property Office, Garmai Koboi, as the organization’s National Public Servant of the Year 2025. The ceremony was held on Thursday at LIPO’s Head Office in Monrovia.

According to the President of OFAiRU, Leon B. Saydee, the organization has recognized the milestone contributions Director Koboi makes toward serving her country, which he described as competence, patriotism, selflessness, extreme commitment, deep experienced, proud, dignity and practical disciplined.

President Saydee stated that the non-partisan fact-check investigation was highly designed to authenticate the level of programs she has initiated and implemented since taking over the office of LIPO.

“This initiative was intended to document challenges, expose to the public any act of anti-governance practices and publish unconstitutional endeavors your administration might have created, shine light on major progress and catalogue meaningful reforms initiated under your watch,” he added.

He disclosed that OFAiRU fact-check investigations were mainly guarded by the organization’s people-to-people public engagement survey, a community-based initiative conducted in 2025 across 8 political sub-divisions of Liberia.

President Saydee pointed out that the activities of LIPO in 2025 were primarily foundational, focusing on a more robust public engagement, awareness raising, public-private partnership building, educational pilot programs, and advancing anti-corruption mechanism in the sector.

Receiving the award, Director Koboi expressed thanks and appreciation to OFAIRU for investigating the works of LIPO, but encouraged them to be pro-active in informing LIPO about wrongdoings in the sector.

Director Koboi maintained that it is good to receive feedback of LIPO activities across the nation, whether negative or positive.

She acknowledged that LIPO’s works are done by teams, and the directors and staff have been working collectively to execute these necessary programs under the years in review.

She indicated that providing feedback from the public will help to strengthen and improve LIPO’s services to the public, especially to producers of intellectual properties in Liberia.

Director Koboi urged that OFAiRU should warn its members against un-factual stories and avoid fictions to enhance the online platform.
