President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has paid tribute to the women of Liberia on the occasion of International Women’s Day 2026, commending their resilience, leadership, and invaluable contributions to the peace, stability, and development of the nation.
Speaking during a program marking the global celebration, President Boakai described Liberian women as the “crème of society and pillars of national development”, acknowledging their enduring role in sustaining families, communities, and institutions across the country.
“On behalf of all the men of this country, we want to wish you, the women of Liberia, a happy International Women’s Day,” President Boakai said.
The Liberian leader noted that his government has strong confidence in the capabilities of women and looks forward to working with them across all sectors of national life to foster a professional and respectful environment, where women can contribute meaningfully to national progress.
“We have a lot of confidence in you and we look forward to working with you to ensure that you feel empowered, respected, and fully recognized in everything you do. We are doing this openly to demonstrate to the world that Liberia has able and capable women ready to serve this country,” the President added.
President Boakai also praised the courage and determination of Liberian women who have historically played pivotal roles in promoting peace, national unity, and community development.
Meanwhile, as part of activities marking the celebration, the women of Liberia presented an award to President Boakai in recognition of his leadership and support for the advancement, protection, and empowerment of women and girls across the country.
The citation on the award reads, “This award is presented in celebration of International Women’s Day 2026 in recognition of your visionary leadership and support in promoting the rights, protection, and development of women and girls across Liberia.”
Reading the citation on behalf of the women of Liberia, Macdella Cooper, Political Advisor to the President, commended President Boakai for his continued advocacy for women’s empowerment and gender equality. She noted that the recognition reflects the appreciation of Liberian women for the President’s support and his dedication to improving the welfare and opportunities available to women and girls nationwide.
On behalf of the women, the Minister of Gender Children and Social Protection, Gbeme Horrace Kollie, stated that Liberian women remain ready to continue playing their vital role in national development and leadership across Liberia.
