President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. this morning departed Liberia for the United States of America, where he will attend the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, as well as hold series of bilateral and partnership meetings.

The President will join fellow Heads of State and Government, world leaders and global partners to deliberate on pressing international issues, including peace and security, climate change, sustainable development and global cooperation.

While in the United States, President Boakai will convene and participate in the Liberia National Diaspora Conference, which seeks to strengthen engagement between Liberia and its diaspora community, promote investment opportunities, and mobilize support for national development priorities.

The Liberian Leader is accompanied by a high-level delegation of senior government officials, including the Dean and members of the Cabinet, and Legislators, who will attend various side meetings and specialized events, such as the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and climate-related discussions.

Key officials tasked with participating in break-up thematic and other specialized group sessions as well as bilateral meetings are Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti, Finance Minister Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan, Education Minister Jarso Maley Jallah, Environmental Protection Agency Executive Director Dr. Emmanuel K. Urey Yarkpawolo, Health Minister Dr. Louise M. Kpoto, and Youth and Sports Minister Cllr. Jerod Cole Bangalu.

President Boakai emphasized that Liberia’s participation in the UNGA reaffirms the country’s commitment to multilateralism and its determination to play an active role in addressing global challenges, while the Diaspora Conference highlights the invaluable role Liberians abroad continue to play in the country’s growth and progress.

The President is expected to address the Plenary of the UN General Assembly. He will hold bilateral meetings with international partners, development agencies, and business leaders on the margins of the UN General Assembly, focusing on strengthening Liberia’s partnerships, attracting investment, and advancing the nation’s development agenda.

While the President is away, the Minister of Justice, Cllr. Oswald N. Tweh, will coordinate the affairs of the Cabinet as Acting Chairman, in consultation with the Vice President and with the President.

The President and delegation will return to the country at the close of the month following the conclusion of their official engagements at the close of the Diaspora Conference, which will be held in Washington, D.C.
