President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr. has extended heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of the United States of America following the passing of Reverend Jesse Louis Jackson, renowned American civil rights activist, politician, and Baptist minister.

In a message addressed to the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, President Boakai expressed shock and deep sadness upon learning of the death of Reverend Jackson, who passed away on February 17, 2026, at the age of 84 in Chicago, Illinois.

The President described Reverend Jackson as a towering figure in the struggle for civil rights, social justice, and human dignity. He noted that Reverend Jackson’s lifelong advocacy for equality, democratic values, and the empowerment of marginalized communities resonated far beyond the borders of the United States and inspired millions across the world, including in Liberia.

“During this difficult period of grief,” President Boakai conveyed, “I extend to you and, through you, to the Government and people of the United States of America, especially the bereaved family, our heartfelt condolences for the loss sustained. We pray that the Almighty God grants consolation as your country endures this difficult period of mourning.”

The President emphasized the longstanding historic ties between Liberia and the United States and expressed Liberia’s solidarity with the American people during this time of national mourning.

President Boakai concluded by offering assurances of his highest consideration and esteem to President Trump and the American people.
