As calm is yet to be restored and normal activities resumed at the University of Liberia, President Joseph N. Boakai, Sr. has pledged to reinstate calm and dignity to the university as it was before the civil crisis; writes Ojuku Silver-tongue Kangar, Jr.

โ€œIn a meeting held with the faculty, the faculty informed the President about salary challenge, transportation issues, and several things. The President said that, as long as he is President, he will make sure that the dignity of UL is restored,โ€ Presidential Press Secretary Kula Fofana told Executive Mansionโ€™s reporters during a press briefing on Friday at the premises of the Executive Mansion.

The University of Liberia is a premier state-run institution that molds the minds of future generation and leaders to make the highest decisions in the society and the world at large by leading in a moral manner.

On Sunday, June 16, 2024 the University of Liberia Faculty and Staff Association (ULFASA) issued a release that disclosed it convened a combined emergency general assembly on Friday, June 14, 2024 and made decisions on issues affecting their welfare.

Due to the grave concern of the staffers, normal activities are at a standstill on the universityโ€™s campuses, prompting protest and student organizations and the public to ill-discuss the university for its constant abnormal activities and abrupt closure.

But in President Boakaiโ€™s administration, the university is poised to recover its lost glory, according to a meeting the President held with its faculty and others.

โ€œFor the saga at UL, the President has set up a team to coordinate between the Executive Mansion and the University of Liberia, the leadership, the Board of Trustees, the council as well as the student community, and civil society,โ€ Fofana said. โ€œIn finding a new leadership at the UL, a meeting of resolution is supposed to be held with the President, and from that meeting the President will make a decision that is best to himโ€.

Meanwhile, the President also held a meeting with the full bench of the Supreme Court that promoted the rule of law and other matters. Presidential Press Secretary Fofana added that the President published his assets he declared in February on Friday, June 21, 2024, ensuring that he is loyal to his pledge made over time to publicize his assets.
