“Pres. Weah Committed To Holding Free, Fair and Transparent Elections In October”; Min. Kemayah Tells EU Election Observation Mission
Foreign Minister, Ambassador Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah, Sr., has reassured the European Union Election Observation Mission Liberia 2023 and other international partners that President Dr. George Manneh Weah is championing and committed to holding free, fair and transparent elections in October 2023.
“No one champions the need for free, fair, peaceful, transparent, inclusive and credible elections more than President Dr. George Manneh Weah,” he assured.
Foreign Minister Kemayah indicated that the forthcoming general and presidential elections in October 2023 are crucial to consolidating Liberia’s democracy as well as the sustenance of peace and national development in the country.
Foreign Minister Kemayah also reiterated the unwavering commitment of President Dr. George Manneh Weah to maintain the peace and stability in Liberia. “Our government is prepared to conduct a free, fair, transparent, peaceful, inclusive and credible general and presidential elections in October 2023,” he reiterated.
The Dean of the Cabinet made these remarks on Monday, September 11, 2023 when the European Union Election Observation Mission, Liberia 2023, led by Jarek M. Domanski, Deputy Chief Observer paid a courtesy call on him at his Foreign Ministry office, on the Capitol Hill.
The Liberian chief diplomat told the EU observers that he is absolutely confident that the outcome of a free, fair, transparent, peaceful and inclusive electoral process will further enhance the sustenance and consolidation of peace in Liberia, which he said is the foundation for a thriving democracy and the pursuit of the national development agenda.
Foreign Minister Kemayah recounted that an inclusive process will ensure the continued participation of all Liberians in the political and governance process of the country.
The Foreign Minister further noted that the Government of Liberia (GOL), under President George Manneh Weah, welcomes and cherishes the EU and other members of the international community’s desire of deploying observation team in Liberia to observe the campaign processes, leading to the October 10, 2023 election and post-election activities.
For his part, Jarek M. Domanski, Deputy Chief Observer, European Union Election Observation Mission Liberia 2023, stated that they are in Liberia to observe the 2023 election.
He told the Foreign Minister that the EU team will deploy about one hundred persons throughout the length and breadth of the Republic of Liberia.
Domanski said while in Liberia, EU-EOM is expected to meet and hold discussions with all stakeholders in the country, adding that the EU-EOM remains thankful to the Government of Liberia for approving their documents as it relates to the deployment of EU-EOM observers in the country to observe the upcoming elections in October.
Domanski also narrated that they are in the country to strengthen democracy and will therefore issue the preliminary statement on October 12, 2023, after the polls.
