President George Weah on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 officially lighted the National Christmas Tree.

The brief occasion is an annual traditional event to symbolize the commencement of the festive season celebration.

The Liberian leader, dressed in a white suit, was accompanied by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Her Honor Sie-A-Nyene Yuoh, Associate Justices of the Supreme Court of Liberia and other members of the cabinet, as well as members of the National Legislature to jointly perform the national task on Capitol Hill, the seat of the government.

Chief Justice Youh welcomed and received President Weah and his entourage and hoped that peace and goowill will be with the Liberian leader, his family and the people of Liberia as he gradually exit the stage as President of Liberia.

Also speaking briefly, the Liberian leader, while switching on the light, emphasized that he hopes that the light will keep the nation and its people peaceful, and prayed that the light shines in the hearts of all Liberians.

Meanwhile, the annual Christmas tree traditional exercise performed by President Weah on Wednesday will mark his last as President of Liberia, following his recent defeat to the main opposition leader, Jospeh Boakai, in the November 14, 2023 run-off election.
