President Weah Consoles Vatican City State–Following the Death of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI

The President of the Republic of Liberia, His Excellency Dr. George Manneh Weah, has sent a condolence message to His Holiness Pope Francis, Head of the Catholic Church and Sovereign of the Vatican City State following the death of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, who died on Saturday, December 31, 2022 at the age of ninety-five (95).

   According to a Foreign Ministry release, President George Manneh Weah, On behalf of the government and People of Liberia, and in his own name extended heartfelt condolences to His Holiness Pope Francis, Head of the Catholic Church and Sovereign of the Vatican City State, to the government and people of the Vatican City State and in particular the bereaved family for the irreparable loss sustained.

   President Weah stated that Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI will be remembered as a renowned theologian and dedicated leader who was committed to interfaith dialogue, and an advocate for vulnerable persons, including refugees, internally displaced person and migrants.

   The Liberian Leader then prayed and hoped that the Almighty God will grant His Holiness, the people of the Vatican City, and the Roman Catholic Faith the fortitude to endure this time of grief.
