Former Montserrado County’s district #16 Representative Candidate, Archie Sarnor, has urged the government to reduce taxes on imported goods in the country.

Sarnor noted that the high taxes on imported goods on containers from the Freeport of Monrovia is severely affecting local investors in improving their investments across the nation.

Sarnor made the assertion recently when he launched the Freeport Parking Lot Project at the Freeport of Monrovia.

According to him, reducing taxes on imported goods, such as vehicles and others, could go a long way in helping Liberians to engage in transportation business,   which could curb the huge motorbikes and tricycles transportation across the country.

He stated that taxes on imported vehicles are very high in Liberia, as compared to other countries in the West Africa sub-region, and that high taxes pose serious challenges to consumers.

Sarnor pointed out that some of these high taxes and charges imposed on importers and investors can be attributed to delays from APM Terminal in clearing the goods.

He maintained that these extra charges on importers and investors should be the responsibility of APM Terminals and not the importer.

Sarnor emphasized that if these measures are taken it will help to improve domestic investments in the country.
