“Reject UP’s Risky Mission”–Koijee Urges Electorate
The Secretary General of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), Jefferson Koijee, has called on Liberians to reject what he termed as a risky mission projected by the Unity Party (UP) at the ballot box on October 10, 2023.
Speaking at the kick-off of CDC primaries on Thursday, June 29, 2023 in district #15, Montserrado County, the Chairman of the primary committee, Koijee, warned those in the opposition to desist from threatening peaceful citizens for their loyalty to the CDC, adding that anyone involved in such act is considered “an enemy of God and His people”.
He claimed, “The Liberian people are not willing to join any risky mission headed by a bunch of unpatriotic opposition members who are noted for being involved with selling human parts to seek state power.”
Touching on the on-going primaries across the country earlier before the votes were cast, Koijee disclosed that 50 out of the 150 primary delegates were to vote in the process. He said the decision followed a consultation that the primary committee should allow such a number out of the total of 150 delegates to take part in the primary.
The committee outlined four groups in the CDC that are voting in the primaries: zonal heads, woman wing, youth league and central leadership, adding that each group was mandated to submit ten delegates, in exception to the central leadership, which was told to submit fifteen delegates, amounting to a total of 45 delegates to vote.
Meanwhile, the incumbent Representative of Montserrado County district #15, Abu Bana Kamara, has been declared winner of the CDC primary on a white ballot. In consonance with the guidelines set by the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) Primary Committee, all the coordinators of the party in the district cast their ballot for Representative Kamara.
The process was presided over by the Committee Chair, who is also the Secretary General of the CDC, and was administered at the party’s district #15 office on Thursday, June 29, 2023.
Also, Representative Acarus Moses Gray and Josephine Davies were elected unopposed in district #8 and #10 respectively.
The conduct of the primaries is a two-day simultaneous process, which is taking place in various electoral districts and counties across the country.
