The long-awaited mourning of citizens of Grand Bassa County’s district #4 may be addressed by the 55th National Legislature, as their Representative-elect, Alfred H. Flomo, has promised to addressed agriculture, road connectivity and others.

“In as much as we are in the ruling position now, it is on us to create the necessary rescue interventions for our people; therefore, I am recommending that our government should focus more on strengthening the private sectors by encouraging more private sector investments through robust negotiations with private investors or companies in the Liberian economy,” Representative-elect Flomo said. “President-elect Boakai needs to mandate all would-be cabinet ministers to engage in agricultural activities in their respective counties so as to create employment opportunities, food productions and improve the green revolution”.

Representative-elect Flomo, who won out-going Representative Benson Willie of the Coalition of Democratic Change, served the Liberia Agriculture Company (LAC) for several years as Purchasing Superintendent until his certification as Representative-elect of the district on Friday December 8, 2023.

He, in a patriotic tone, draws the in-coming government’s attention to the Liberia Agriculture Company’s agreement, to be revisited carefully for the citizens’ benefit.

“The agreement for operations of LAC in Grand Bassa was signed in 1959, and the Government of Liberia (GOL) has since been collecting taxes from the employees and the company till today; however, the citizens of that district are yet to benefit from any social services from central government through those taxes,” Representative-elect Flomo lamented.

In addition, he said the only major Bassa-Gio road which leads from Buchanan through Compound #3 up to Bong and Nimba counties continues to remain in an awful state, thus causing the company to spend over US$150,000 every year for the maintenance of the muddy road to enable dwellers to commute in that region,” Representative-elect Flomo said, indicating that he defends the people’s interest. He added that the pavement of the road from Buchanan to St. John River will link Bong, Nimba and Grand Bassa counties for the easy transition of agricultural products.

In a redeeming tone, he called on the in-coming government to consider pavement of the roads in order to “invigorate agricultural, healthcare and educational activities for our people in those regions.

“I am optimistic that, with government’s intervention through the pavement of the road, the company will then use such money for basic development initiatives in district that could benefit the citizens and help create better livelihood for them,” the Representative-elect said.

He reassured the people of Grand Bassa, specifically electoral district #4, of his unquenchable commitment to transforming the agricultural, healthcare, road, and educational sectors of the district for the betterment of all.

The Representative-elect, who is a tycoon of rubber and owns the second largest rubber plantation in LAC, stated that for food security in Liberia President-elect Boakai must encourage every would-be cabinet minister to prioritize agriculture countywide.

He however congratulated the electorate for voting him into power, and called for unity for the district and its citizens’ well-being.

“I call on every citizen of the district to work with me in achieving this plan,” he said in a nationalistic tone.
