Maryland County’s district #1 Representative, P. Mike Jurry, has challenged young Liberians to contribute towards the reduction of poverty, hunger, illiteracy among other things in fulfillment of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Liberia.

Representative Jurry stated that any little contribution is significant towards obtaining the SDGs 17 goals to reduce poverty and hunger in the society.

The Maryland County lawmaker made the assertion over the weekend at a one-day Liberia Diplomatic Club Summit held at the University of Liberia auditorium in Monrovia.

He noted that reducing poverty, hunger and illiteracy in the Liberian society will depend on individual effort at the community level that donate items to people who cannot afford them in the society.

He underscored that there are personal items which some individuals have in the community but have not had use for over the years, but they continue to keep them while others are in need of them.

Representative Jurry maintained that the government is making progress towards meeting the 17 goals of the SDGs by the year 2030, but individuals in Liberia have major roles to play for Liberia to achieve these goals.

According to him, the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals depends on the collective effort of every Liberian, no matter their status in the society, noting that everybody can make mark in achieving these goals in education, health, save-drinking water, electricity, agriculture, infrastructure, security and peace for the betterment of the country and its people.

He emphasized the need for one to teach one if illiteracy should be eradicated the nation.
Representative Jurry pointed out that Liberia is one of the developing countries faced with many challenges in every sector; however, government is working hard to address these challenges, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals, in its development drive.
