The Senate Joint Committee on Internal Affairs, Judiciary, and Defense and Security has concluded phase two of its mediatory engagement into the impasse within the United Methodist Church in Liberia.

The UMC delegation attending Phase two of the engagement included Thelrasa Daies, Associate Lay Leader, LAC/UMC; Cllr. Madina Wesseh, Chancellor LAC/UMC; Milton Weeks, Team Member; Dr. Roland Clark, Team Member; Cllr. Ruth Jappy, Chancellor LAC/UMC; Rev. Dr. George Wheagba, Vice President, United Methodist University; and Rev. Caleb S G Dormah, Director Youth At-Risk, UMC/LAC.

The delegation excluded Bishop Samuel Quire, who was absent due to his engagements in preparation for the up-coming convocation ceremony of the United Methodist University.

During the hearing, it was resolved that all parties refrain from any and every inflammatory public and private comments in the wake of the mediatory efforts. It was also resolved that a review be conducted to explore the possibility to utilize the Internal Dispute Resolution mechanisms in bringing the two parties back together.

Additionally, the Senate Joint Committee agreed to set up an ad-hoc committee to bring together delegations from both the United Methodist Church and the Global Methodist Church on a roundtable aimed at seeking a possible resolution.

On March 7, 2025, the Senate Joint Committee began holding hearings into the crisis within the United Methodist Church with an intent to have a peaceful coexistence and guarantee public safety and security upon orders from the full plenary of the Liberian Senate.
