Several Old Folks Receive Independence Day Gifts
As a way of identifying with the older folks, otherwise known as “senior citizens”, a faith-based humanitarian organization, Word of Life International (WLI), has provided food and non-food items to several old-aged persons.
WLI was established in 1998 with a branch in the United States and obtained Consultative Status with the United Nations in 2018. Since then, the WLI has been accredited as an International NGO by the Liberian government, and has been engaged in various programs in Liberia with funding from its USA office.
Accordingly, in line with its core activities, the faith-based group in October of 2022 launched an aging program to ensure the well-being of old folks, and since then has been contributing to the well-being of some of these old folks.
As part of its humanitarian gesture ahead of the 177th Independence Day celebration, the organization provided assorted food items and clothes to old folks drawn from Pipeline and other communities in Paynesville as their season gifts.
Speaking during the donation of the items, WLI National Overseer, Anderson Vanwen, pointed out that the gesture was the organization’s own way of identifying with people during Independence Day.
In fulfillment of the Scripture, he stated that it was a way of blessing the older folks so that the organization can, in turn, be blessed.
Vanwen asserted that there was no better way of celebrating Independence rather than identifying with the needy old folks, whose age has limited them and can barely find food for themselves.
“This is to bless the older folks so that our organization is further blessed. This is not only about this church or Pipeline, but people from other communities.
“As a Christian humanitarian group, one of our core values is to give back to society, and this is exactly what we are doing. There are people in our society who can barely fend food for themselves due to age limitation. So, we have come in to help people in such category—our senior citizens,” Anderson stated.
For their part, the beneficiaries lauded WLI for the kind gesture, and craved the mercy of the Lord for more blessings upon the organization so that they are, in turn, blessed, also.
“Thank God for this organization to keep helping us. Thanks to each and every one of you for this gesture, for this is benefiting to us. We are so grateful to you, and I hope it’s not the last. We will continue to pray for you to get more to do more for us,” said Aloysius Tokpa, 62, who is the President of the old folks.
“I am so happy for this. This make us really feel good. This is the second year that we continue to enjoy this. We want to thank God for this organization that has always been there for the poor, especially us, the older folks,” asserted Clenweh Lewis, 60.
In brief remarks, WLI Acting Head of Program, Rebecca KG Ndorbor, extolled the General Overseer and Board for the immense support to the organization.
“Thanks to our donors, our General Overseer and members of the board who have seen the need of ageing people for this gesture. This is your July 26 package,” she said.
