Ahead of the October 10, 2023 general and presidential elections, the Presidential Candidate of the Liberia First Movement (LFM), Sheikh Al Moustapha Kouyateh, has named Dr. Max O. Vargbehlee as his vice presidential candidate.

He said, Dr. Vargbehlee came on board with vast experienced and a character one can trust with the second highest office in the land.

According to him, integrity is high on their national agenda, stating that, if elected, they will heal the wounds of Liberians and build a future that all Liberians can be proud of.

Meanwhile, Kouyateh had emphasized the significance of guaranteeing free, fair and transparent general and presidential elections on October 10, 2023 by the National Elections Commission (NEC).

According to him, democracy relies on the confidence and trust of the people, and it is the responsibility of the NEC to ensure that Liberians can exercise their right to vote without any interference.

The LFM’s presidential candidate is at the same time calling on the NEC to fulfill its duty with integrity, impartiality and efficiency, fostering an environment where everyone’s voice will be heard, and every one vote counts.

The outspoken Liberian politician said, in the spirit of constructive engagement, he is appealing to all political parties to refrain from personal attacks and instead focus on policies that will uplift the lives of Liberians.

The LFM political leader added that the nation faces multifaceted challenges, including poverty, unemployment, inadequate education and healthcare, and it is substantive policy discussions and debates that can identify solutions and chart a path towards progress.

He then rallied Liberians to prioritize the interest and well-being of the Liberian people above partisan agendas, working together to create positive change.

However, Sheikh Kouyateh urged all political parties to unite in supporting the establishment of a war and economic crimes court in Liberia. “We have witnessed a lack of transparency, accountability and responsible decision-making that uplift the lives of Liberians,” he said.

In addition, he appealed to every party to rise above personal attack and prioritize policy to safeguard the democracy through free, fair and transparent election.  He implored the National Election Commission (NEC) as a passionate advocate for a democratic Liberia to uphold justice and accountability.

“It is not only through this process that we can heal abuses, but also lay the foundation for a society built on justice and rule of law. A war and economic crimes court will serve as a deterrent for future war crimes and economic exploitation,” he added.

Speaking further, Sheikh Al Moustapha Kouyateh said the establishment of a war and economic crimes court is something that he will ensure, as President of Liberia come 2024. He stated that Liberians must confront the dark chapters of the past and ensure that those responsible for crimes against the Liberian people are brought to justice.
