The Seku Ibrahim Sheriff High School (SISHS) on Sunday held its nineth graduation exercise at the school campus in Gardernesville, outskirts of Monrovia.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, the Managing Director of the National Port Authority (NPA), Sekou Dukuly, urged the graduates to remain focused if they want to become agents of change in the society.

Director Dukuly urged them to be disciplined, committed and have integrity, which are key for change agents in any society, and Liberia is no exception.

According to him, integrity plays a critical role when an individual wants to success in life. He indicated that Liberia needs competent doctors, engineers, teachers, among others, for the rebuilding of the nation and its people.

He noted that Liberia was noticed to be first in several areas of development, but due to the civil war it lagged in capacity building to transform its development drive.

Director Dukuly encouraged the graduates to develop their capacity in the medical, mining, agriculture, financial and other sectors to improve the development drive of Liberia in the near future.

Meanwhile, the Principal of the Seku Ibrahim Sheriff High School, Alhaji Varmunyah S. Sheriff, has expressed appreciation to the Dukuly family for donating L$400,000 to the school, and added that the school is seeking scholarship opportunities for their graduates to pursue higher education at various universities in the country and abroad.

Principal Varmunyah stated that the school sent 47 students for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and they all passed the examination, noting that these are brilliant students who need further support to obtain university education.

According to him, providing scholarships for these graduates at university level will go a long way in empowering potential young people for the growth and development of Liberia.

He admonished the graduates to strive for higher education at the university level in the various field of studies, in order to contribute towards the socio-economic development of the nation.

For his part, the Dux of the school, Mohammed Swaray, said there is a need for the government to establish rehabilitation centers across the country to rehabilitate disadvantaged youths in the nation.

Swaray noted that the demolition of ghettoes across Monrovia and its environs is not enough to curtail the fight against illicit drugs without restoring the victims.

He underscored the need for schools to provide counseling for young people about the effect of illicit drugs to prevent drugs addiction.

He acknowledged the effort of parents, guardians, administrators and teachers for their contribution toward their schooling at the Seku Ibrahim Sheriff High School.
