Militants of the vanguard Student Unification Party (SUP) have been accused of unleashing havoc on the campus of the African Methodist Episcopal University (AMEU), Camp Johnson Road, leading to the complete disruption of activities on the school.

For the past days now, individuals dressed in khaki have been spotted around the AMEU campus, throwing stones at the school building and creating a hostile environment, causing the students, administrators, nearby residents and passersby to go helter-skelter and taking undercover protection from the flying stones.

Video footages trending on social media and other platforms captured a number of SUPists carrying out the violence. The Liberia National Police (LNP) has also arrested Darius S. Toweh, Jr. in connection to the AMEU violence.

The LNP, in its press release, invited the leadership of the Student Unification Party (SUP) to the office of the Deputy Inspector General of Police for Crime Services (CSD), Prince Mulbah, on August 11, 2022 to answer to allegations levied against them by the AMEU authorities.

However, in a release issued yesterday, the Student Unification Party (SUP) distanced itself from any violence at AMEU but called for a mass citizen rally for the continuation of the “FixTheCountry” campaign on August 24, 2022.

Chairman of SUP, Mustapha Kanneh

The UL-based student political movement reiterated its 51 counts, which it considered the bedrock and epicenter of the consistent mass protest, which includes “mass corruption and graft in government, deplorable conditions of all government schools, compromised and kangaroo justice system, swelling unemployment and social insecurities, lack of clean water and sanitation, lack of reliable electricity and the two-face dealing between ArcelorMittal and HPX”.

An observer, who goes by the name “Sul Dia” on Facebook, has accused SUP of being a stooge and a sellout to the opposition to escalate the July 26 violence in order to hamper President George Weah’s upcoming trip to Washington, D.C. in December.

According to Dia, a SUPist confided in him that leaders of SUP recently held a meeting with a few leaders of the Unity Party (UP) and were told to utilize Christopher Sisulu’s case to bring down the CDC regime or paint President Weah’s image ugly in the eyes of the international community. “While it wasn’t our plan for Christopher or anyone to be beaten on that day, his beating is now an opportunity to make President Weah unpopular, most especially when we are heading for the presidential election,” Sul Dia quoted the SUPist, whom he said revealed the information to him on the basis of anonymity.    He said the SUPist continued, “The plan is to keep Christopher hidden for as long as possible. Christopher was beaten, but the ‘injected with substance’ is one of the plans to bring Weah down…You think if Christopher’s case was that serious, there won’t be videos of him like it was the photo or his parents crying for justice? They are calm because they are in communication with their child, and the opposition community has promised them a handsome amount too, and to as well help them to sue those involved in beating Christopher.”
